A thug who murdered a dad-of-two over a kebab has been convicted of assaulting a prison officer at HMP Shotts while serving his life sentence.
Dean Logan, 27, was just 15 years old when, along with two other teenagers, he carried out an unprovoked drug and drink fuelled attack on Nachatter Singh Bola.
In January 2011 he was ordered to serve a minimum of nine years for his part in the murder.
Logan had been serving his sentence at the Shotts facility when he punched Alan Murphy in March last year.
He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court representing himself where he admitted the attack on the prison officer, which left his victim with bruising to his head.
He told Sheriff Anthony Deutsch: “I was segregated for a number of months and lost wages.
“I admit I punched the officer but there was a reason behind it – prison is a difficult place.”
The sheriff sentenced him to three months which will run concurrently with the term he is already serving for murdering Mr Singh Bola over a decade ago.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that the 36-year-old from India had been visiting relatives in 2010 and was staying in Renfrew when he visited a takeaway for a kebab.
The three teenage thugs then chased him for no reason and, when he fell in the street close to where he was staying, Logan along with Dillon Cherrie and Stewart Patterson carried out a “vicious and sustained” attack on Mr Singh Bola, during which his head and body was repeatedly stamped on and kicked.
He died five weeks later in hospital from pneumonia and multiple organ failure which were a result of the head injuries sustained during the mindless and unprovoked attack.
Mr Singh Bola was the father of an eight-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, his wife Baljinder Kaur was unable to be at his side before he died due to visa problems.
Following the sentencing of the three thugs, she said: “Those boys are probably sitting back thinking about their sentences and the rest of their lives.
“They probably have no understanding how they have destroyed my life and my family’s lives”.
Logan from Port Glasgow who had been drinking and taking valium sent a number of texts after the attack implicating himself in the murder, and admitting “battering” Mr Singh Bola for his kebab.
All three thugs were handed life sentences, Cherrie was also ordered to serve a minimum of nine years while Patterson was told he would serve at least 10-and-a-half years.
Judge Lady Dorrian told them that but for their guilty pleas their sentences would have been longer.
