Thug put cigarette out on young mum's face and bragged about cheating on her

An aggressive boyfriend strangled and threatened to kill a young mum in a cruel "revenge attack" after warning her: "Snitches get stitches."

Heavy drinker Benjamin Feeney, 23, also put out a cigarette on the woman's head and taunted her by telling her: "Look at the state of you. No wonder I cheated on you.''

Hull Crown Court heard how he gave her explicit details of his sexual encounters with other woman and locked her inside of her own home so that she could not leave, as reported by Hull Live.

Feeney, of Hull, admitted to assaulting the woman, causing actual bodily harm, as well as witness intimidation and criminal damage.

Prosecutor, Stephen Robinson, said that Feeney became abusive to his partner, calling her names, and he was told by police not to contact her.

But they began communicating on Snapchat and the text messages became "flirtatious".

Feeney made threats on August 17 and later sent her a message saying "Snitches get stitches" and he asked her to drop her complaint to the police about him.

He threatened to break into her house and there was an argument, which she recorded on her phone. He tried four times to pull the phone out of her hand.

On September 1, the woman challenged Feeney about smoking cannabis but he locked her inside her home so that she could not leave.

He returned 10 minutes later and damaged a phone charger by cutting it with scissors before again locking her in the house for 30 seconds.

He told her: "Look at the state of you. No wonder I cheated on you.''

Feeney gave her intimate details of sexual antics that he had got up to with other women before pushing her backwards onto a door handle.

"He grabbed hold of her throat, pinning her up against the door," said Mr Robinson.

The woman could not get Feeney off and he pulled her hair and grabbed her neck with both hands.

He warned her: "I'm going to kill you."

Feeney went outside to have a cigarette and she locked the door from the inside but he told her: "If you don't let me in, I will boot your door in."

She was worried for the safety of her children, aged two and one.

Feeney told her: "I'll f***ing burn you, you silly c***" and held a lit cigarette to her face in the area between her eyebrows, causing burns to her forehead.

He looked at her phone for 45 minutes before leaving.

It was a "revenge attack committed on impulse" and there was "strangulation of a vulnerable victim", said Mr Robinson.

The victim later said that she was "heartbroken" and did not sleep for three days afterwards and did not eat for 18 hours.

"I feel empty," she said. "I am insecure about everything."

She had been living in a "nightmare" and did not sleep properly, was endlessly crying and the pain did "not feel like any normal heartache".

Dale Brook, mitigating, said that Feeney had no previous convictions and was immature and perhaps emotionally inadequate in dealing with the complexities of a particularly difficult relationship.

"These were appalling incidents," said Mr Brook. "They are serious."

Feeney was a hard-working and an otherwise "admirable young person" and there were glowing references from his mother and employer.

He had previously worked for Hull City Council and still had the chance of work there, despite being in custody since September.

Recorder Taryn Turner condemned Feeney's "bullying, aggressive, disgraceful behaviour" and the persistent and prolonged attack involving "strangulation of this young woman" who was obviously vulnerable.

"You appear to have a drink problem in that you drink too much," she said.

Feeney was given a 20-month suspended prison sentence, a 90-day tagged alcohol abstinence order and 39 days' rehabilitation.

He was ordered to pay £750 compensation and was given an indefinite restraining order.

After the hearing, the victim, who was in court, declined to comment.
