Thug punches pair in savage unprovoked night-time attack on Glasgow street

A young Scots man and woman were subjected to a vicious unprovoked attack on a night out.

In CCTV footage widely shared on social media, the young pair are seen standing outside the offices of a charity on Argyle Street in Glasgow, reports Glasgow Live. As they stand at the side of the street beneath Glasgow Central in the area known as the Hielanman's Umbrella, a male carrying a bottle is seen to challenge the female.

As her friend steps in to intervene, the man lunges at him with his fist, appearing to strike him on the head. As the woman looks on in shock, the attacker turns to her and punches her in the head, causing her to drop something on the ground.

Shocked onlookers rushed to their side, including workers from Homeless Project Scotland, whose CCTV captured the horrifying incident in full and graphic detail. The charity provided the pair with first aid and encouraged them to report the incident to the police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Record that they had not received a report of an assault at this time. Homeless Project Scotland says it is the second incident of unprompted violence in recent days, after food laid out for the homeless by volunteers was tipped over in the street.

A spokesperson for the non-profit, which is campaigning to be given access to an unused council building for its work, said: "Last week it was food crashed to the ground this week, it's members of the public minding their own business and getting attacked.

"Homeless Project Scotland volunteers provided first aid and supported the people who where assaulted and they were advised it was best to report it to the police.

"We really need a building to bring people inside to a warm safe space. We hope people decide to donate instead of show hate."
