An angry thug left his ex-girlfriend with a cut to her head after swilling his drink then throwing his glass at her.
Lucas Watson was made subject of a restraining order, which banned him from contacting his former partner, after he assaulted her in February last year. However, the pair happened to bump into each other at the Old Post Office pub, in Byker, last month and struck up a civil conversation.
A court heard that the 23-year-old's mood soon changed and he suddenly swilled his drink on the woman before throwing his glass at her. Prosecutors said that the glass struck the woman on the forehead, causing a cut on her hairline.

Although the injury bled, the victim didn't attend hospital and didn't receive medical treatment. However, Watson, of Melbourne Court, in the Ouseburn area of Newcastle, was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and breaching a restraining order. He pleaded guilty to both offences at Newcastle Magistrates' Court.
Giving him a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, District Judge Paul Currer said: "You could not control your reaction to speaking to [the victim] in the pub and you didn't control it. You took the first step of swilling her with your drink then, to make matters worse, you threw a glass at her.
"The injury could have been far more severe. It was an extremely nasty and mean thing to do, given the degrading and humiliating nature of your actions. You used a weapon and you have previous convictions for assaulting the same victim. It was committed in a domestic context because she was your former partner. It was degrading towards her and humiliating for her."
The court heard that Watson was made subject of a restraining order after assaulting the victim in February last year. However, on February 17 this year, the pair both ended up in the Old Post Office pub, in Byker.
Jennifer McKelvin, prosecuting, said the victim approached Watson and they began a civil conversation. Ms McKelvin added: "It was during this conversation and, without provocation, that the defendant swilled her with the remaining contents of his glass then threw the glass at her.
"This caused a cut to her head. The cut was under the hairline, so couldn't easily be seen, but there was heavy bleeding."
Adrian Ions, defending, said Watson had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, showed remorse and realised what he'd done was wrong. Mr Ions continued: "There is an element of recklessness here. There's a conversation, he's become agitated, he goes to leave and, within a second, he throws the glass."
