Thug leaves man with serious head injury after vicious attack near Glasgow Central Station

A man suffered a serious head injury after being attacked by a thug near Glasgow Central Station.

The 20-year-old was walking along Gordon Street, near the rail station, when he was viciously assaulted by a man at about 9.45pm on Saturday.

After being struck on the head and left seriously hurt, the victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

His condition is at this stage unknown.

Officers believe he was involved in an “altercation” with the victim five minutes before the assault.

The suspect is described as white, in his 20s, medium build, with short black hair which was shaved in at the sides.

He was wearing a white T-shirt with a black motif on the chest, black tapered tracksuit trousers, and black trainers with white soles.

Police said they will review any relevant CCTV footage from in an around the area for images which could assist the investigation.

Detective Constable Matthew McCann said, “We believe that five minutes prior to the assault taking place, there was an altercation between the two men.

“This area is always busy with people out and about and revellers socialising.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.

“Even if you think your information is not important, let us be the judge of that and please do pass it on.

“A young man has sustained a serious head injury and it’s vital we find the person responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 4032 for March, 26. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be called on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
