A thug has been jailed for 16 months for a "vicious" attack on a woman at a bus station.
Dylan Edwards admitted punching his victim, pinning her against a wall and striking her body with his knee.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard he then chased the terrified woman before headbutting and kicking her.
Edwards, 26, a prisoner, admitted assaulting her at Hamilton bus station on February 4.
He also admitted shouting abuse and making threats in Marguerite Gardens, Bothwell, six days later.
His lawyer said Edward has difficulties with alcohol and drugs, and suggested these could be addressed by a community payback order.
But Sheriff Colin Dunipace said custody was the only appropriate sentence and it would have been two years had Edwards not pleaded guilty at an early stage.
He told the accused: "This was a vicious and prolonged attack on an innocent female.
"It involved you assaulting her, pursuing her and assaulting her again. She sustained significant injuries."
The sheriff pointed out that Edwards has previous for similar offending.
However, the sentence was backdated as he has been in custody since February.
