Images of one of Edinburgh's most iconic stores have been captured on social media, dating back to 1984, when the store first opened.
SavaCentre at Cameron Toll once stood where the huge Sainsbury's store does now, with the supermarket chain actually owning the shop, with its trademark orange logo being carried forward for more than three decades.
The store opened in 1984 and although it was owned by Sainsbury's, it operated within its own brand, acting as a chain of stores, being one of only 13 nationwide hypermarkets.

SavaCentre battled fellow retail giant Safeways, also located within Cameron Toll, before it triumphed following Safeways' closure in 1997, with SavaCentre eventually becoming a fully-fledged Sainsbury's store and going strong today.
The video, recently uploaded on TikTok, shows SavaCentre throughout several stages of its presence in the shopping centre, from when the store first opened in 1984, to present day, showing it as the same Sainsbury's we all know it as now.
The first image, from 1984, shows the site in a completely different light. The upstairs area that is now a gym, was a roof-terrace coffee shop that looked down onto the entrance to SavaCentre. Although the logo was a rather plain green and blue circular crest, the railings and long banner above the store were painted orange, carrying some resemblance to what currently occupies the same site.
The second oldest image of the centre is from 1993. This picture shows more of an orange resemblance to Sainsbury's and actually includes the supermarket's name above the SavaCentre logo. The word 'centre' is in orange writing, with the railings and strip above still looking much the same as they did ten years present.
The following image from 1995, although it's only two years on from the previous one, shows quite a bit of change to the main entrance. The logo above the store is pretty much the same, although the barrier and terrace above is painted white, somehow making the image look older than the original one taken when it first opened.

From then, the remaining two images were taken fairly recently, 2004 and 2016 showing Sainsbury's. In 2004, the terraced coffee shop still remained, before it has been transformed into a gym further down the line. Also occupying the middle of the centre is a car, similar to Ocean Terminal, the space was often used for cars to be showcased for everyone to see.
Although TikTok may not be the most nostalgia-driven platform, some of the comments were from people who had fond memories of SavaCentre from their childhoods.
One user commented: "Why does it get better the older it gets."
Another agreed, saying: "Why does everything look better in the 80s and 90s."
One user pointed out the loss of the red barriers and strip above the store, saying: "They removed the red strip lights from outside, it's now white. Red was so 80s why did they do that?".
Another seemed to agree that the current setup needs a little TLC, saying: "The older design was better, I don't know what the obsession is with making these places sterile and lifeless but these places need some damn colour."
