Thriston Lawrence What's In The Bag? 2025 Update

Thriston Lawrence What's In The Bag? 2025 Update.

Thriston Lawrence What's In The Bag?

South African golfer Thriston Lawrence is a four-time winner on the DP World Tour who really announced himself to the golf world at the 2024 Open at Royal Troon when he fired a third round 65 to move into second place and book a spot in the last group alongside Billy Horschel for the final round.

He ended up finishing in a respectable fourth place as Xander Schauffele came roaring through to win, but Lawrence will be looking to build on a successful 2024 and elevate his game further this year. Here, we take a look at what is in his bag.

Driver

As a Ping staff player Lawrence plays a full bag of clubs from the brand at the moment, from driver to putter and everything in between. He starts with a Ping G430 Max driver, which we find to be quite interesting as most professional golfers prefer the LST model. The Max is a one of the best drivers we’ve tested in recent years and is more suited to a wider range of golfers. Lawrence’s driver has 10.5 degrees of loft and is fitted with a Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei 1K Blue 80 TX shaft.

Fairway Wood

Onto the fairway wood now, and again, Lawrence has opted for the Max version of the G430 head. The Ping G430 Max was a favourite of ours in 2024 and Lawrence is one of many Ping staff players to use it. Interestingly though, he only carries a five-wood. It has 18 degrees of loft and is fitted with a Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana shaft. Overall, when the G430 Max was released, we were impressed with Ping's ability to create a fairway wood that continues to deliver exceptional forgiveness and ball speeds that creep up to match some of the longer fairway woods in the game.

What's more, the sleek look of the G430 Max fairway makes it even more appealing to hit and, personally, even though it has been replaced by the G440 we think that it is still one of the best fairway woods available on the market.

Irons

Moving onto the irons now, and Lawrence uses a combo set consisting of three different models. He starts with a Ping G410 Crossover, which acts as his three-iron and, from there, he then has Ping i230's in four and five-iron.

From six-iron down to pitching wedge he uses Ping iBlade's which. although an older model, are still regularly seen out on Tour, which is testament to just how trusted they are.

Wedges

In regards to the wedges, Lawrence has transitioned from the Ping Glide 4.0 wedges he uses in 2024 to a newer set of Ping S159 wedges which are in 50, 54 and 58 degrees of loft. Featuring True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts. In our testing, we thought this wedge looked exceptional and performed just as well. What really stood out to us, at least, was how easy it was to spin the golf ball. Even when hitting shots that came off a little hotter and lower than expected, the ball sat to attention quicker than most new wedges.

Putter

The final club in the bag is a Ping PLD Oslo 4 Prototype that Lawrence has had in the bag for a while now. Ping is a brand known for making some of the best putters and given his success of late, we expect this model to stay in Lawrence’s bag for the foreseeable future.

Ball

Lawrence uses a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball, which comes as no surprise to us given how used this ball is out on Tour. In our testing, we were most impressed with how much this ball has raised the bar in terms of consistency. Both during our launch monitor testing and out on the course, we felt like the flight was impressively stable and reliable.
