A three-year-old girl has been killed after a collision between a tram and a van in Manchester.

Greater Manchester police officers attended the scene on Mosley Street, near to St Peter’s Square, after the collision on Saturday morning.

Officers said the girl was taken to hospital after the incident in the city centre, and later died from her injuries. According to reports, the girl was a pedestrian on the street and was hit by the van after it rebounded from a collision with the tram.

The van driver has yet to be found, and the area and nearby streets have been cordoned off.

No arrests have been made, and Manchester Evening News reported that the driver fled the scene.

Manchester’s Bee Network said on social media: “Due to a road traffic collision on Mosley Street in the city centre, no tram services are operating between St Peter’s Square and Piccadilly Gardens.”

Tram routes have been redirected through Exchange Square until further notice.

A Greater Manchester police spokesperson said: “Emergency services are responding to reports of a collision involving a tram and a van in Manchester city centre.

“A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital and has sadly passed away from her injuries. No arrests have been made and inquiries are ongoing.”
