Three worst hit Covid hot spots in Ayrshire as suppressed zones return

New data released today shows the worst hit Covid zones in Ayrshire.

Public Health Scotland's statistics shows the highest case rates per 100,000 population for the past seven days.

And for the first time in many, many months, a suppressed area has appeared on the map. Suppressed areas are those that are showing the lowest level of Covid cases.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon insisted Scotland is in a better place in the fight against coronavirus thanks to the emergency Omicron restrictions brought in over the festive season.

Across Scotland today, 6,329 cases have been recorded. This includes lateral flow tests and PCRs.

Tragically, four more deaths have also been recorded overnight and 41 people are in ICU with Covid across the country. A total of 1,441 people were in hospital yesterday with the virus.

And 4,405,821 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination; 4,105,220 have received their second dose; and 3,252,819 have received a third dose or booster
