Three villages in Scotland named among the 'poshest in the UK' by The Times

Three Scottish villages have been named as some of the 'poshest in the UK' in a new article by The Times.

In a newly published list of the '22 poshest villages', the newspaper rounded up the most "aspirational" locations across the UK, and Scottish villages in Moray and Aberdeenshire are among those included.

The Scottish locations singled out by The Times are Craigellachie in Moray, Braemar in Aberdeenshire, and Hopeman near Elgin. Every destination in the article was given a 'posh rating' out of five, with all the Scottish villages scoring at least three.

Craigellachie is a small village sitting on confluence of the River Spey and River Fiddich and is best known for its whisky. It is home to two single malt whisky distilleries, as well as the Speyside Cooperage.

With a 'posh score' of four out of five, Craigellachie is home to a number of shops, inns, and pubs. Perhaps the most well known building is the historic Craigellachie Hotel, which is known as Scotland's oldest whisky hotel.

The second Scottish destination to appear on the list is Braemar within the Cairngorms National Park, which also received a posh rating of four out of five by The Times. The newspaper said the village was among the "buzziest" in Scotland, and praised its "glamorous" Fife Arms hotel.

Elsewhere, the village is home to the historic Braemar Castle and has no shortage of stunning walking and hiking routes with the Cairngorms on its doorstep. It also hosts the Braemar Gathering, which has been described as "the most famous and best Highland Games in the world".

The third and final Scottish village on The Times' list is the seaside village of Hopeman. It is known for its picturesque harbour and two stunning sandy beaches, one of which includes a row of colourful beach huts.

With a posh rating of three out of five, Hopeman was singled out by the newspaper for restaurants and bars such as Bootleggers Bar & Grill and the Salty Dog. The village is also home to the popular Hopeman Golf Club, which claims to be among the most demanding courses in the country.
