Three things spotted in Liverpool new kit video as special banner revealed

With the Champions League group stage underway this week, Liverpool have unveiled their new Nike third kit for the 2022/23 season.

The Reds will kick off their campaign with an away trip to Napoli on Wednesday night - and the new kit is a celebration of the flags and banners that have travelled with supporters across the continent for decades. The kit release video was filmed at the Olympia in Liverpool, a well-known venue for post European matches.

The kit itself is a blend of 'Dark Atomic Teal and Rio Teal, along with a Siren Red sleeve cuff, crest and partner logos'. Here's three things spotted in the video released this morning...

A new, custom-made banner

For the video, the venue had been covered in famous banners and signs from Liverpool's European trips. However, front and centre is a new banner, commissioned especially for the release as the club pay tribute to the long-standing traditions.

Made by Mark Sweatman, a supporter and flag maker, the banner showcases a map of Europe that features 97 stars, each one tied to a specific location to represent an away victory for trophy win for the Reds.

Powerful lyrics

The soundtrack to the video has been provided by a local band consisting of Liverpool supporters, The Cheap Thrills. An acoustic version of their song 'Codependence' is a fitting representation of Liverpool and supporters in Europe.

'We'll follow for a lifetime and a day' is the most powerful lyric and is also included on the new banner showcased in the release video. 'I'd walk over hot stones work my fingers to the bone. Go between north and south poles just to show how far we've grown,' is another lyric from the catchy tune that fits neatly with the club's history in Europe.

A first look at Liverpool's European pedigree for the new signings

A number of the Liverpool squad feature in the video as they walk through a sea of banners and signs. Captain Jordan Henderson appears at the start as he makes his way towards the stage, before it cuts to new signing Darwin Nunez as he gets his first taste of 'Europe' as a Red.

Andy Robertson also makes an appearance, while Mohamed Salah is pictured holding his famous 'Egyptian King' banner. Curtis Jones and Liverpool Women star Missy Bo Kearns are also shown.

Roberto Firmino is joined by another new face in Fabio Carvalho, who could make his Champions League debut this week when the Reds travel to Naples if he is back after being withdrawn with a dead leg in the 0-0 against Everton over the weekend.

The video ends with Fabinho, Nunez and Luis Diaz stood side by side, Nunez saluting as he did after he equalised against Fulham in Liverpool's opening game of the league campaign.
