Three things spotted from Arsenal training as Mikel Arteta's side prepare for AC Milan clash

Arsenal's preparations for their second game of the Dubai Super Cup against AC Milan are well underway.

The Gunners lost 4-2 to training ground neighbours Watford in a behind-closed-doors friendly at London Colney last weekend, but they bounced back from that result in style with a 3-0 win over Lyon on Thursday.

Goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Eddie Nketiah and a stunning finish from Fabio Vieira saw Mikel Arteta's side ease to victory at the Al-Maktoum Stadium. As part of the Dubai tournament, Arsenal also played for an additional bonus-point in a penalty shootout after the game. Despite missing three spot-kicks, they secured that extra point by winning the shootout 2-1. Karl Hein was the hero as he saved four of Lyon's five attempts from 12 yards.

With Milan ahead of them, they've quickly moved on from that game, though, as seen in a training video released by the club on Sunday. Here's three things we spotted from that session.

Nelson's birthday

It was Reiss Nelson's birthday over the weekend. The now 23-year-old was spreading good vibes at the beginning of training as he spoke to several of the Gunners' key first-team players, including Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah. The positivity at training has been consistently noticeable this season and supporters will be hoping that continues long-term.

Captain Odegaard's reactions

The Arsenal players were involved in some light-hearted, fun-filled reaction drills to start the day. One player stood out above the rest and that was Arsenal's captain, Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian won his respective head to head on all three of the attempts shown on video. His ability to think and move quickly is what makes him such an intelligent player, so training like this does matter in the grand scheme of things.

Elneny's hard work pays off

One of the final drills was a close-control 4v1. Three players on the outside would pass to whoever was in the middle. The player in the middle was then tasked with either passing it back out to those on the outside or slotting the ball into one of two small goals. However, the goals were defended by another player.

Elneny impressed when it was his turn to defend as Albert Sambi Lokonga struggled to create the right angles to take a shot on. In fact, although it's difficult to work out who says it, you can even hear one of the coaches shout: "Well done Moh, you're doing a good job here."
