Three teams of BJP leaders to begin State tour to assess Assembly seats

The BJP is set to begin its formal preparation for the elections from Tuesday with three teams comprising senior leaders of the party embarking on a tour to assess the situation in each Assembly constituency.

The teams led by party national general secretary Arun Singh, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and State president Nalin Kumar Kateel will tour different districts assigned to them in three phases from Tuesday. The teams are expected to file a detailed report on their findings before the party central leadership.

According to sources in the party, these teams have been told by the party high command to analyse various political aspects in every Assembly constituency, including the performance of either the sitting MLA from the party or the defeated candidate where the constituency is being held by the Opposition candidates.

In addition to this, the teams are also supposed to analyse the party organisation’s strength in relation to the Assembly elections. According to a party functionary, the teams would hold a meeting of the district core committee as well as local office-bearers’ meet.

Beneficiary meetings

As part of an outreach programme, the teams have also been instructed to collect Assembly constituency-wise information with respect to beneficiaries under various State and Central schemes, sources said. The party is learnt to be planning to hold separate scheme-wise meetings of these beneficiaries at different levels to reach out to them. A similar strategy was applied in Uttar Pradesh.

The team led by Mr. Kateel comprises among others Jagadish Shettar, K.S. Eshwarappa, V. Somanna, Pratap Simha, and Tejaswini Ananth Kumar. The team headed by Mr. Arun Singh comprises B.S. Yediyurappa, Govind Karjol, R. Ashok, and C.T. Ravi among others. The third team led by the Chief Minister comprises D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Pralhad Joshi, C.N. Ashwath Narayan, B. Sriramulu, Nirmal Kumar Surana, and B. Y. Vijayendra among others.

The teams would tour the State in the first phase on April 12 and 13, in the second phase on April 19 and 20, and the third phase on April 21 and 22.
