Three people have been taken to hospital following a collision between a police car and motorcycle in Dunston.
Emergency services were called to Dunston Road at around 3pm this afternoon following reports of a collision between a motorcyclist and a car on the flyover above the A1.
The A1 Western Bypass Southbound exit slip road currently remained closed for several hours. The road has now reopened.

Northumbria Police confirmed that the police car involved was responding to an emergency at the time of the collision.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly after 3pm today (Friday), we were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Dunston Bank in Gateshead involving a police car which was responding to an emergency call-out and a motorcycle. Emergency services are currently at the scene.
“The two people on the motorcycle have been taken to hospital by air ambulance, with serious injuries. Meanwhile, the officer who was driving the car has also been taken to hospital as a precaution.
“The road is closed as well as the northbound and southbound A1 slip roads as enquiries are carried out into the collision.
“As is standard practice in such circumstances, the collision has been referred to the Independent Officer for Police Conduct.
“Anyone with information in relation to the collision is asked to contact police, quoting log NP-20220708-0666.”
North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) despatched three ambulances and the Great North Air Ambulance and three patients were taken to hospital.
A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call just after 3pm about a collision between car and a motorcyclist. We despatched three ambulances and the air ambulance and took three patients to hospital."
