Tragedy struck the Gaza Strip as reports emerged of an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle carrying the family members of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The incident, which occurred near Al Shati (“Beach Camp”) northwest of Gaza City, resulted in the deaths of three sons and three grandchildren of Haniyeh.
According to a doctor at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City, the airstrike claimed the lives of three adults and three children, who were brought to the hospital following the attack. Haniyeh, head of Hamas’s political bureau, confirmed the devastating news, expressing his awareness of the reports that his family members had been killed.
In a statement to Al Jazeera, Haniyeh acknowledged the loss of his sons in the strike, emphasizing that they were martyred in Al Shati refugee camp. Despite the personal tragedy, Haniyeh remained resolute, stating that targeting leaders' houses and families would only strengthen Hamas’ resolve.
He dismissed the notion that such attacks would deter Hamas from pursuing its demands, asserting that any attempts to undermine the group through violence would be futile.
