Gamescom starts this week, and as Europe’s biggest gaming convention there will be a number of huge gaming reveals for upcoming and unannounced games. Recently, a number of companies have decided to host their own smaller showcases, like the Xbox Games Showcase or Nintendo Directs, rather than taking part in larger showcases. These big-scale conventions are still around, whether that’s Summer Game Fest, Tokyo Game Show or Gamescom. With all eyes in the gaming industry set on Cologne this year, here’s the top three reasons you should be watching Gamescom this year.
1
Without E3 we need the next big showcase
Summer Game Fest plugged some of the holes that E3 left when it was canceled this year. E3 is usually the largest gaming convention of the year, but this June we had a lot of smaller online showcases instead. Summer Game Fest did some of the heavy lifting in bridging the gap, but we were still hungry for something a bit more.
Gamescom will have all of the big developers you expect at any big gaming convention, but it’s exciting to see them all in the same place. It inspires a bit of competition, and developers being in the same space at the same time means we’ll hopefully get some big news.

2023 has been the best year for gaming so far
There have been so many amazing games this year, it feels like 2023 might be the best year that gaming has ever had. Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo 4, Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4, and Street Fighter 6 are all currently fighting for the top spot, and there are so many more amazing games yet to come.
September and October are jam-packed with incredible gaming releases that we’re hoping to see more of at Gamescom. Whether that’s more from the biggest upcoming games, or some new announcements about games that haven’t been revealed yet. If this is what 2023 has come up with so far, we have high hopes for what is to come.

There are some big games we already know about
With Starfield around the corner, we’re hoping to see even more from Bethesda’s next huge game before we get the chance to dive in this September. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be getting a new trailer ahead of its October release, and we’re hoping to see people’s first impressions if there are hands-on experiences at Gamescom. We might even hear more about the five other Assassin’s Creed games in the works.
Other big games like Sonic Superstars, which we’ve seen very little of so far, are bound to receive more attention, and even the recently announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 should get more details at the event. Essentially, if you want to know more about the huge upcoming games, then this is the show you need to tune into.
