Three-quarters of Brits believe Boris Johnson is 'dishonest' and 'lacks integrity'

Boris Johnson is dishonest, according to an overwhelming majority of voters.

Some 76% believe the Prime Minister is dishonest, as he battles to save his premiership from Partygate allegations, according to a Survation poll for campaign group 38 Degrees.

Seven in 10 of the 2,036 quizzed think he lacks integrity.

The number of voters who backed the Tories in 2019 and who believe the PM is honest has more than halved since November, with just one in five of them thinking the party leader possesses the virtue.

Some 67% want Conservative MPs to vote no confidence in their leader - a view held by 47% of people who voted for the party in 2019.

38 Degrees campaigns manager Jonathan Harty said: "Voters want honesty from the country's leaders, it's a basic sign of respect.

Mr Johnson has repeatedly denied accusations of lying (PA)

“Now the public’s verdict is in - following Downing Street Christmas party revelations, trust in the honesty of government has nosedived.

“The integrity of our politics is hanging by a thread.

“That fewer than two in 10 people believe both the Prime Minister and the Government is honest should act as a huge warning sign about the health of our democracy right now.”

No10 was approached for comment.

Mr Johnson has previously denied lying to the Queen over suspending Parliament in 2019 at the height of the Brexit battles, and more recently denied misleading the Commons over what he knew about the May 20, 2020 “Bring Your Own Booze” Partygate bash in Downing Street, which he said he attended thinking it was a “work event”.
