Three pundits all agree on Man City vs Inter Milan Champions League final prediction

Manchester City will be aiming to win the Champions League for the first time when they take on Inter Milan this evening.

City have headed to Istanbul to take on the Serie A outfit with the aim of sealing the Treble. It is City's second time reaching the final of Europe's elite club competition as they aim to banish the memories of two years ago when they lost against Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola's men have already wrapped up the Premier League title and won the FA Cup. The latter was secured last Saturday at Wembley with a 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester United and now only the Champions League remains.

Should City win this evening, they will seal the Treble and emulate United in their 1999 achievement, meaning both halves of Manchester will have managed the rare feat. Kick-off at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium is 8pm.

Ahead of the encounter, pundits have been having their say and predicting what the final score will be. Here is what they have had to say.

Chris Sutton (BBC Sport)

"This is a dangerous game for City. Inter Milan are giants of European football but at this moment in time, Pep Guardiola's side are far superior.

"Everyone expects City to win it but, at the back of Guardiola's mind there must be the thought that they have been in this situation in this competition before - when everyone has expected them to beat lesser teams, and they haven't managed it.

"City's history in the Champions League since Guardiola took charge in 2016 does make you wonder whether they will somehow miss out again, but this could be seventh time lucky for him. It should be.

"You look at Inter in the middle of the park and they have got technicians like Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in there.

"They like to play football under Simone Inzaghi, but will they be brave enough to try it - will they have the legs to compete with City in that central area for 90 minutes, and match their intensity?

"It is a big ask, and there's a strong chance they will get outnumbered in there because City love to get overloads all over the pitch.

"Erling Haaland hasn't been as prolific of late, with only one goal in his past seven appearances, but it's never been the case that City have just been reliant on him.

"Haaland is a goal machine, which is why he has scored 52 this season - but City have goals from other areas, as Bernardo Silva showed when he scored twice in the second leg of their semi-final against Real Madrid - and of course Ilkay Gundogan did the same in the FA Cup final.

"I don't know how Inter will get the ball up the pitch to hurt City, the same way United struggled to beat their press on Saturday. If Inter do score first then it becomes a tricky tie for Guardiola's side, but if City score early then this could be an absolute pummelling.

"City have been waiting and waiting, and stumbling and stumbling in the Champions League but the way I see it, when they do get over the line, they will win by a country mile. That's how I see this game panning out."

Sutton's prediction: Manchester City 4-0 Inter Milan

Paul Merson (Sportskeeda)

"I would back Manchester City, but I've seen this too many times in the past - people expected them to turn up against Chelsea two years ago. This is a brilliant opportunity for City - they don't get too many shots at a treble. The only other English team to have won it are their neighbours.

"Inter Milan will cause problems because they have good players. They could play two strikers up front, and it could give City something to think about. It stops John Stones from working his way into midfield. In Barella and Mkhitaryan, they've got players in there that can pass the ball.

"Inter Milan absolutely demolished AC Milan in the derby and if they pull off a similar start, they have a chance. Romelu Lukaku has been in good form and he's got to play in this game. You don't want him backing into you at the edge of the box.

"Inter Milan have a go at their opponents, and I think there will be goals in this game. They have a better midfield than people give them credit for and if they can find five or six passes, they'll be away. The Premier League has a lot of midfielders that aren't majorly comfortable on the ball, and teams like Arsenal and Brighton have caused Manchester City a few problems. If you can beat their press, you can get to them.

"You've got to remember that Manchester City didn't just win against Real Madrid - they dominated. They blew them away, and the game was almost cringeworthy. They've always had two games to get the job done, however, and this is a big, one-off football match. Before they won the second leg, Man City were held to a draw.

"Pep Guardiola is already a phenomenal manager, and he keeps other managers on their feet thinking about how they're going to play against him. People say that he's got great players and he does, but he's on a different planet because of the way he gets them to play football.

"The only thing that could trip City up is nerves, in my opinion. If Manchester City play well on Saturday, they'll win the treble."

Merson's prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Inter Milan

Phil Thompson (Paddy Power)

"It’s a massive game. Manchester City have got a double sewn up and they denied Manchester United a double of their own in the FA Cup last weekend. They’ve won their fifth Premier League in six years so they do know how to win the big games.

"The Champions League has eluded them, though, and they lost at Brentford on the final day of the season. But I don’t think that will damage their confidence. They’ve rattled in the goals and were top scorers in the Premier League with 94.

"I think they’ll carry on scoring goals, and Inter Milan will not have enough to beat them, although they did win at the weekend. They won 1-0 away at Torino to finish third in Serie A.

"But they lost 12 games this season, only drawing three, so that’s a lot of losses. They play 3-5-2 with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez up front which could cause City problems but I think they will be keeping a clean sheet in this game.

"I don’t think the pressure of winning a treble will affect them. The way this City team plays is nice and composed, it doesn’t matter who they’re playing. They never get ruffled, they just keep passing it and I think they’ll drag Inter Milan all over the place.

"It looks like a 3-5-2 for Inter Milan but I think that’ll be more like five at the back to negate City’s wide men. I think they will win that treble and I’ve got City to win"

Thompson's prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Inter Milan
