Three potential Leeds United FPL assets as countdown to new Premier League season continues

The return of the Premier League is now less than a week away with Crystal Palace and Arsenal set to provide this season’s curtain raiser on Friday night. Leeds United will get their campaign underway less than 24 hours later as they host Wolverhampton Wanderers next Saturday.

For many, these next few days will give people the opportunity to finalise their fantasy football teams with players receiving unlimited transfers until Friday’s 18:30 deadline. Given Leeds’ disappointing campaign last term, it looks as though many of their players have been overlooked as potentially reliable FPL assets.

However, LeedsLive are here to buck that trend and tell you three players who could rack up the points during the season.

Rasmus Kristensen - £5m

It is no surprise that every Leeds defensive option is under 1% ownership following their dismal record at the back last season. At 0.5%, Kristensen is actually the most owned Leeds defender which is a pretty telling story in itself.

That said, where Kristensen could rack up the points is going the other way. The right back netted seven goals and provided four assists for Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga last season so is clearly no stranger to attacking output.

If he can register even half of those numbers in the Premier League then he could prove to be a hidden gem among the FPL defensive options.

Brenden Aaronson - £5.5m

Again, Leeds players are not among the popular choices in midfield with all of them at 1% ownership or below. But £5.5m Brenden Aaronson – a number 10 who looks likely to start every game he is fit – could be the best choice.

Leeds are going to rely on him for creativity through the middle of the park and given Jesse Marsch’s preference to play narrow, Aaronson will see a lot of the ball in the attacking third. Goals and assists are certainly something he needs to improve on, but his late runs into the box and sharp link-up play mean they are likely to come.

If you’re looking for a cheap player to complete your midfield, then look no further than the USMNT international.

Joe Gelhardt - £5.5m

With Patrick Bamford’s likelihood to start the season as first choice striker, Joe Gelhardt may not be someone who sparks into life on the FPL scene until later in the campaign. But based on last season’s impact, Marsch won’t be able to keep Gelhardt out of the team for too long.

Gelhardt contributed to a goal every 122 minutes in the Premier League across the 2021/22 campaign, scoring two goals, providing two assists and winning two penalties. At such a cheap price, he could be the perfect player in that third striker slot.
