Three people were shot and killed at a motor vehicle office in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday, police said.

Maj Donald Boeckman of Louisville metro police department told reporters that officers found one person dead at the scene and another two wounded. The two wounded were taken to hospitals and died there. He said there was no ongoing threat to public.

The local station WDRB reported that the police said the person killed at the scene was a man and those who died later in hospital were both women.

There have been no reported arrests and little information on the shooter or suspects.

Boeckman said the suspect or suspects left in a vehicle. Boeckman did not have a description of the vehicle and said investigators were still reviewing surveillance video.

“It’s absolutely a tragedy and I’m surprised there wasn’t more people injured,” Boeckman said.

Boeckman also said police did not know if the victims were connected, the Associated Press reported, although WDRB reported that the victims were a woman and her two adult children.

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear posted on X: “A senseless act of violence outside of a regional driver licensing office on Dixie Highway in Louisville has taken the lives of three people. This is an ongoing situation, and we will share more information as available.”

He also thanked law enforcement and others at the facility who assisted and said: “Let’s pray for the family members of those lost during this difficult time.”
