Three people are dead and two are seriously injured in hospital after a night out in Newport on Friday night. Gwent Police said that their car was involved in a crash in the St Mellons area of the city and was found just after midnight on Monday.
Over the weekend friends and family of three women and two men had been appealing for help to find them after they went missing following a night out in the early hours of Saturday, March 4. Their families had not heard from them since and were growing desperately worried.
Sophie Russon, 20, Eve Smith, 21, and Darcy Ross, 21, who are all from Newport, were at the Muffler bar and club in Maesglas in Newport on Friday evening before friends believe they headed to Trecco Bay in Porthcawl with Shane Loughlin, 32, and Rafel Jeanne-Actie, 24, who were also reported missing.
Police said that following enquiries to locate five people who were reported as missing, officers have found the car they were last seen in.
The VW Tiguan was found in the St Mellons area of Cardiff just after midnight on Monday 6 March. On Monday morning, the A48 Eastern Avenue in both directions was closed due to what had been described as a police incident at A48(M) St Mellons, near the garden centre. The roundabout is closed, meaning traffic can't get to and from the A48 Eastern Avenue dual-carriageway.
A statement from police say It’s believed the car was involved in a road traffic collision and came off the A48, adding: "Three of those who were reported missing have been found deceased, two have been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
Specialist officers are supporting the families of those involved and enquiries are ongoing.
