Three people have been charged in Buenos Aires in connection with the death of British artist Liam Payne. His father, Geoff Payne, managed to repatriate his son's remains after he died on October 16 from a fall from the third floor of his hotel.
While Argentina's National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office has kept the case confidential, La Nación reported that charges were brought against an employee of the CasaSur Hotel, an alleged drug dealer, and a supposed friend of Liam following police raids on the hotel and seven other locations.
The eight locations searched were linked to the three individuals charged, except for one address reportedly associated with two women who stayed with the One Direction singer at the hotel on the day of his death. Allegedly, they were invited to the musician's room through an app called 'Gemidos,' and the situation escalated into a conflict after they attempted to charge him $5,000 for their services.
The women have not been charged, though their status in the case may change.
Charges in the Liam Payne Case
The names of the accused have not been released, but it is known that the alleged drug dealer and the hotel employee who provided his contact face charges of "drug supply." Both men are prohibited from leaving the country.
The friend faces a charge of "abandonment of a person," which, under Argentine law, carries a sentence of three to ten years in prison but could be eligible for bail, allowing the individual to remain free with restrictions if convicted.
The Investigation into Liam Payne's Death
Details about the alleged friend and the dealer were uncovered through data on Liam's cell phone.
Records show that a hotel employee called 911 shortly before the incident, describing the singer's behavior as "aggressive" and referring to a guest who seemed "out of control." Notably, this employee was dismissed shortly after the tragic incident, raising further questions about his possible involvement.
During the thorough investigation, authorities supposedly found text messages on the singer's cell phone from an Argentine businessman, described as a close "friend."
According to various sources, Liam was accompanied in his final hours by Rogelio "Roger" Nores, an Argentine businessman in the energy sector. Witnesses reported that Nores tried to persuade the One Direction member to leave the hotel before the fatal incident. However, it remains unclear if he is directly implicated or if another individual is involved.
