It's good news for osprey watchers with an eye on the Loch of the Lowes reserve at Dunkeld as there are now three eggs in the nest atop a pine tree.
Female osprey NC0 laid her third egg at 12.14pm today on Monday, April 18 at the nest site managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
It followed a second egg laid on Friday, April 15 at 4.05pm and a first egg three days before that on Tuesday 12.
As before, the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Perthshire ranger was alerted that an egg had arrived after hearing the bird's distinctive squawking noises relayed by the webcam.
Emma Castle-Smith, assistant manager at the Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre in Dunkeld said of the second deposit: “It was a great start to the Easter weekend."
By the time the third and final egg was laid, the male osprey LM12 gave visitors to the reserve a demonstration of his spectacular flying skills when he was called upon twice to chase off an intruding female who landed on the nest, threatening to take over.
The latest blog from the Scottish Wildlife Trust includes footage of all the action from the nest which is overlooked with a live camera feed which hundreds of people tune into at any one time.
The Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre is open from 10.30am - 5pm.
