Three North East beauty spots named among 30 every Brit should see in their lifetime

Three North East beauty spots have been named among the 30 sights every Brit should see in their lifetime.

The list, which was topped by Stonehenge and the White Cliffs of Dover, was compiled from Vision Express's #DiscoverMore challenge on Instagram, polling 1,500 Britons on the UK's most stunning sights.

The highest placed in the North East is Hadrian's Wall which comes in at 9th place. The Wall is celebrating its 1900th anniversary this year with the 1900 Festival and depending on when guests visit, they may see battle re-enactments, art exhibitions and bunting displays up at Vindolanda.

It's quite a gap before the next North East sight on the list, but they're two worth waiting for. The view from the Tyne Bridge comes in 22nd place, followed by Bamburgh Castle in 26th.

Claire Thorburn, who works at Bamburgh Castle, was delighted to be named a must-see sight. She said: "If you come inside the castle gates and stand on the battlements, it's a sight like nothing else just to experience that history under your feet and look out to sea.

"It's just so magnificent, there's nowhere else like it in the world. It should be number one!"

And while other places on the list, such as overall winner Stonehenge, can often be thronged with tourists, Claire says that even in the summer the castle doesn't get overcrowded. She continued: "It's a huge site across nine acres. So you have always got the space and it's a place where you can get the ultimate selfie... it's so instagrammable!"

The research also found that 60% of Brits admit there are plenty of world famous British sights they have yet to experience, while another 65% have vowed to see more of Britain this year than they have in 2021.

43% of those polled admit that they sometimes forget how breathtaking the UK can be, while almost half (48%) said that one of the UK is one of the most beautiful places to live in the world.
