Three non-alcoholic cocktails to toast Dry January

Is Dry January the new veganism? I ask because there’s a startling similarity. After all, how do you know someone’s doing Dry Jan? They’ll tell you about it.

And sure, you might be off the sauce, feeling smug and ensuring everyone on WhatsApp knows about it. But truth be told, almost all non-alcoholic wine turns into regret in the glass, and while there’s some excellent zero per cent beer out there, it can feel like a chore by week two.

But running teetotal needn’t mean your drinks should be dull, and it doesn’t mean settling for Ribena in a pint glass. The answer? Proper non-alcoholic cocktails — sharp, bright, and worthy of your favourite glassware. Courtesy of Theo Konstantopoulos of Gaucho and M Restaurants, here are three stellar booze-free cocktails to make Dry January a little less… well, dry.

Forest Paloma

Ingredients

  1. 40ml Everleaf Forest
  2. 10ml fresh lime juice
  3. Pink grapefruit soda

Method

  1. Build in a glass with ice.
  2. Garnish with salt rim.

Basil Gimlet

Ingredients

Method

  1. Place all ingredients in a shaker and shake well. Double strain in a martini glass and garnish with a fresh basil leaf.

Nogroni

Ingredients

Method

  1. Stir all ingredients in a rocks glass with ice.
  2. Garnish with an orange peel.
