Three Man City players set for involvement in play-off finals

The Football League play-offs are a seminal part of English football's season finale.

Guaranteed to produce excitement, ecstasy and disappointment across all three divisions, the semi-finals and finals are often exhilarating affairs. And this season's finals will see a clutch of Manchester City loanees seeking to do their bit for the promotion cause.

The Wembley showpieces in the Championship, League One and Le ague Two take place over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of the month and three players from the blue half of Manchester will be involved.

Luton Town will face Coventry City in the final, meaning City pair Josh Wilson-Ebrand and Callum Doyle have a chance of getting a promotion to the Premier League on their CV.

For Doyle, in the England Under-20 World Cup squad for the tournament which starts this month, it would be a second successive promotion having been on loan at Sunderland when the Black Cats won the play-off final at Wembley in League One a year ago. The young defender started the semi-final second leg win over Middlesbrough while Wilson-Ebrand was an unused sub.

The defeat for Boro, managed by former Manchester United player and coach Michael Carrick, means City loanee Zack Steffen misses out on a Wembley final.

In League One, Peterborough United thought they had done the hard work in their first leg as they crushed Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 on home soil, only to succumb to perhaps the greatest play-off comeback of all-time as Wednesday won the return leg 5-1 after extra-time and secured a final spot via a penalty shoot-out victory.

Wednesday will take on Barnsley, where City forward Slobodan Tedic is on loan, after their 2-1 aggregate victory over Bolton.

There will be no City involvement in the League Two final.
