Three London universities among top institutions for employability

A new university league table reveals three of the top five UK institutions for employability are in London.

The London Business School, London School of Economics, and Imperial College were all named in the top five UK universities based on employability by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). Cambridge and Oxford took the top two spots.

The CWUR, which published its global rankings today, analysed universities across the world based on four factors — quality of education, employability, quality of faculty and research performance.

Harvard took the overall global top spot and was named top university in the world, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford. Cambridge and Oxford universities were ranked fourth and fifth respectively, and other American universities made up the rest of the top ten.

University College London was the highest London university on the list, climbing two spots to number 19. Imperial College was rated 29th in the world, while King’s College London was rated 40th.

Dr Nadim Mahassen, President of the Center for World University Rankings, said: “While the results of this year’s study confirm that the UK has an outstanding higher education system, the broader story for the nation is concerning, with nearly 60 per cent of UK universities falling down the standings due to intensified global competition from well-funded institutions.

“Efforts must be made to ensure that the UK continues to attract top academics and students.”
