Three Liverpool stars wowed on Soccer AM as Sky brings long-running show to an end

Sky Sports waves goodbye to Soccer AM on Saturday morning as the show airs for the final time and with it goes memories of their iconic segments.

One of those was Skill Skool which provided youngsters from academies across the country with the opportunity to showcase their flamboyant flicks and tricks. The show was fired broadcast in 1995 and during that time dominated early morning television for eager football fans.

Liverpool players, fans and actors have featured on the show to express their love for the Reds plus discuss their careers and projects going on at the time but Skill Skool also had some former Reds on it.

Prior to signing for the Anfield club, Raheem Sterling made an appearance at QPR where he spent his formative years. The winger came up against Christian Nanetti in 2010 but the former Liverpool attacker didn't quite have the skills to claim a win against his Hoops teammate.

Then 15, Sterling was pipped to the win by the Italian who went on to spend his career in the non-league pyramid in England before moving back to his native Italy.

The England international went on to win back-to-back Young Player of the Season with the Reds before winning the Premier League with Manchester City. In the summer, he signed for Chelsea but struggled for form in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also appeared on Soccer AM's Skill Skool during his time as a youngster with boyhood club Sunderland.

In 2008, the 32-year-old was the loser when he faced Nathan Luscombe. Henderson is now known for his leadership as the midfielder airs on the side of caution with his approach but 15 years ago, he fancied himself as a trickster.

These days, he's lauded for his composure on the pitch but during his battle with Luscombe, he showed a cheeky side to his game after ending one of his skills by walking off with his shorts down showing his briefs with the word 'wow' written on them.

"It was a long time ago. The technique looks alright there, a little bit different. To be fair, you started coming up with different things, it was a laugh, a bit of fun. It was great to be fair, we enjoyed it. Maybe [was hard done by by the result], Nathan he had some good ones and had a skipping rope at some point. It was great fun for the lads," he said last month when he was asked about his experience on the show.

Another former Red who showcased their skills was Danny Ings. The forward managed just 25 appearances for Liverpool during his three years at the club before moving to Southampton.

He scored the winning goal against his former club for the Saints during the season when football was played behind closed doors. Since then he has enjoyed success with Aston Villa before moving to West Ham United in January.

His time on Skill Skool came as a youth player for Bournemouth against Muzzy Holmes and is the only winner out of the Liverpool players to feature on the show. Holmes never managed to forge a career with the Cherries after being a trainee on the south coast.
