Three killed in shooting at Siam Paragon shopping centre in Bangkok

Three people have been killed and six injured after a shooting at a major shopping centre in Thailand's capital city, Bangkok.

Police say a 14-year-old suspect was apprehended and has been taken into custody after the incident at the Siam Paragon shopping centre. Emergency services shared an image of a police officer apprehending and handcuffing an individual laying face down on the floor.

The situation is now under control.

Yutthana Sretthanan, director of Bangkok's Emergency Medical Centre said three people were killed and six were hurt.

Unverified social media footage shows hundreds of shoppers screaming and fleeing the centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin posted on X: "I am aware of the shooting event at Siam Paragon and have ordered the police to investigate. I am most worried about public safety."

Gun violence is not uncommon in Thailand.

Last year, an ex-police officer attacked a nursery, killing 37 and in 2020, a soldier shot and killed at least 29 people and wounded 57 in a rampage around the city of Nakhon Ratchasima.
