During an Independence Day celebration in Manhattan's Lower East Side, a devastating incident occurred when a person suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol drove into a park, resulting in the loss of lives and injuries.

The tragic event unfolded when a group of individuals celebrating the holiday was struck by a gray Ford F-150 as it ran through an intersection and into Corlears Hook Park around 9 p.m. According to New York Police Department Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, with a third fatality reported later. Additionally, at least six others sustained injuries in the collision.

Mayor Eric Adams addressed the media, indicating that based on a preliminary investigation, it appeared that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
