The Supreme Court has jailed three men for a violent Adelaide home invasion that left their victim with a gunshot wound to his groin.
Anthony Mavropoulos, 32, Vince Votino, 28, and a third man who cannot be named for legal reasons, were convicted by a jury of charges including aggravated serious criminal trespass and causing harm.
The court heard the men were trying to steal the victim's cannabis crop when they forced their way into his house at Prospect in December 2007.
Mavropoulos held a gun against the resident's head and forced him to walk to the kitchen, warning he would shoot unless the man was quiet.
The court heard that in fear for his life, the man grabbed some knives but was shot in the groin.
He managed to stab the gunman and hide while he called police.
Mavropoulos and the victim both had surgery for their injuries.
Justice Tim Anderson described the offence as 'unsophisticated and clumsy planning' with serious consequences.
He said there was a great need for general deterrence.
"Members of the community who decide to engage in this type of conduct will be met with severe penalties," he said.
Mavropoulos was given a non-parole term of seven years, while two other men who were not armed, received non-parole terms of four-and-a-half years for their roles.
