Three youth, who went into the Godavari river to take a bath, drowned at Polavaram in Eluru district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Geddam Mahesh (21), G. Subramanyam (24) and J. Rajesh (23), natives of Kovvurupadu village of Gopalapuram mandal, said Polavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K. Latha Kumari.
The victims were engaged in construction work. They entered the waters near the Masjid Centre in the town.
Police, with the help of expert swimmers and local people, retrieved the bodies.
The Polavaram police registered a case, the DSP said.
