Three customers receive major boost as new EU roaming laws mean change in data

Three Mobile customers have been given a boost after the phone giant confirmed it was increasing users' roaming allowance when in the EU.

It comes thanks to new regulations introduced by the union, with Three noting that customers will need to top up by a certain amount to benefit from the new rule.

In a message to users on Thursday morning, Three said: "From December 5 2022, we are making some changes to our prepay plans. We are increasing the EU data roaming allowance in your plan when you top up by required minimum amount.

"All You Can Eat Data remains for use in ROI.

"If you exceed your EU data roaming allowance when you have topped up by the required minimum amount, or more, the applicable rate is decreasing from 0.24 per MB (inc VAT) to 0.22 per MB."

The charges are being made in line with the EU Roaming Regulation but customers are warned that this means they do not have a right to cancel your service.

Earlier in the year, a new initiative, 'Roam like at home’, was automatically activated.

That meant that whenever you travel and use your phone abroad in any of the 27 EU countries, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, there were no extra charges.

Since the United Kingdom has left the EU, the 'Roam like at Home' regime does not apply when you travel to the UK, however, some operators have chosen to keep the benefits of ‘Roam like at home’.
