Three charged with murder of young man who was stabbed in Hackney

Three men have been charged with the murder of a young man who was stabbed to death in east London.

Jason Junior Romeo, 20, who was known locally as ‘LD’ died after an altercation in Bodney Road, Hackney, at around 6pm on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said.

Raynolph Asante, 22, of Pembury Road, Travis Mitchell, 21, of Bodney Road, and Rhamyah Bailey-Edwards, 21, of Williams Avenue in Walthamstow, have been charged with murder.

They will appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Scotland Yard said an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday and remains in custody.

A Hackney resident who said he had known Mr Romeo for years previously described him as a “good guy” who “was not a trouble-maker”.

A woman told the Standard: “What did he do to be dead? He’s like a family friend to me. To me and my son. My son is at home. I cannot even tell him that this boy is dead.”

It comes after two men aged 23 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday.

They were released with no further action but detained again over possession with intent to supply Class B cannabis and bailed pending further enquiries, police said.

A school friend also told the Standard Mr Romeo was “like a brother” to him.

The friend, who had known the victim for most of his life, explained: “He was a good kid, he didn’t deserve it... He was a good guy. He knew everyone. He was cool.”

Hackney has been rocked by a series of high-profile attacks in recent months.

A nine-year-old girl and three adults were injured in a shooting outside a restaurant on Kingsland Road in Dalston on May 29.

Bus driver Derek Thomas, 53, was killed on Northwold Road at the junction with Stoke Newington Common when he was returning home from work on July 30.

Pharrell Garcia, 15, was found with stab wounds on Stellman Close, near Hackney Downs, in July. He was attacked while picking up his younger sister from his former primary school.

Lianne Gordon, 42, was the unintended victim of a dispute between two gangs when she was killed in her home on Vine Close on December 5 last year.
