Three charged with murder of Joshua McLean, 31, shot dead in Tower Hamlets park

Three men have been charged with the murder of Joshua McLean who was shot dead in a Tower Hamlets park last month.

Mr McLean, 31, was killed in a shooting in Weavers Fields, off Wilmot Street in Bethnal Green, on the evening of August 6.

Nefur Miah, 36, Muhammed Ismail Ali, and Simeon Oliver-Stewart, 30, have been charged with his murder, the Met police announced on Friday.

All three were due to appear at Thames Magistrates Court later on Friday.

Scotland Yard revealed eight men - aged between 17 and 56 - were arrested on suspicion of murder by detectives investigating Mr McLean’s death on Wednesday.

Miah, of Redmans Road in Stepney Green, Ali, of Marlborough Road in Romford, and Oliver-Stewart, of Clevedon Close in Stoke Newington, were charged with murder.

The other five males who were arrested have all been released on bail.

Joshua’s family have been informed, said the Met.

Mr McLean was found collapsed in Weavers Fields around 8.25pm on August 6.

Weavers Fields is the largest open space in Tower Hamlets and popular with families attracted to its facilities including an adventure playground, football pitch and outdoor gym.

Paramedics, an air ambulance, and police including firearms units were scrambled to the area. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr McLearn could not be saved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police via 101, quoting reference CAD 7454/06AUG. Information, images or footage can also be provided via the Met’s portal here.
