Three men have been arrested after a man died in a collision in the early hours of this morning (November 13). Police say the man in his 30s is believed to have been holding onto the side of a moving taxi before being thrown from the vehicle at a Mercedes being driven the opposite way.
The man, from Fleetwood, was pronounced dead at the scene on the Promenade, in Blackpool, near the Sea Life Centre. The incident happened around 12.20am with no other injuries reported.
The taxi driver, a 58-year-old man from Blackpool, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, police say. The Mercedes driver, a 69-year-old man from Blackpool, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A third man, a 45-year-old from Blackpool was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police have now launched an appeal for witnesses or those with dashcams to come forward.
A police statement said: "Following investigation, police believe the man had been holding onto the outside of a moving taxi. The man was then thrown from the vehicle towards a Mercedes car travelling in the opposite direction."
Temp Sgt Martin Wilcock, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations Unit, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man involved and his family at this very sad and difficult time. While we have made three arrests, this is a complex investigation and we need people to come forward to tell us what they saw.
“Any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant or small, could assist our enquiries.”
