Three arrested after 'violent' armed robbery involving cricket bat and bladed article

A group of men were attacked by a gang wielding a cricket bat and a bladed article during a terrifying robbery in Prestwich.

Police were called to Pendlebury Close in the early hours of Saturday, January 21. It was reported a group of men sat inside a parked vehicle were approached by another group at around midnight.

The group inside the parked car were assaulted and a robbery took place, a spokesman for GMP said. Officers attending the scene recovered cannisters of nitrous oxide nearby.

Three men – two aged 18 and one aged 17 – were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. Witnesses who reported the incident believed weapons including a cricket bat and a bladed article were involved.

Sergeant Christian Allanson of GMP Bury South Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This was a violent robbery that will understandably cause concern in our local community.

"Fortunately no one was seriously injured and I am pleased that quick work by Bury Response officers saw three males apprehended and arrested. The three remain in police custody at this time for questioning.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace offenders who fled the scene but I would like to reassure the local community that we have deployed extra uniformed patrols to the area to conduct enquires as well as to offer support and reassurance.

"This is believed to be an isolated incident and we believe there to be no wider risk to the public but if you have any concerns, please speak to one of our officers.”
