Three arrested after man, 19, stabbed in Fallowfield

Three men have been arrested after a 19-year-old was stabbed in Fallowfield prompting an armed police response.

Police received reports of a disturbance on Platt Lane in Fallowfield at around 10.30pm last night (January 12). Officers attended and a 19-year-old man was found with injuries consistent with a bladed article being used, Greater Manchester Police have said in a statement.

Officers who were first on the scene administered first aid and applied a tourniquet to the victim to stem the bleeding. Armed Response Officers attended shortly after to further assist with the victim’s injuries before he was taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service for treatment.

The suspects were seen to make off in a vehicle but following a successful coordination of GMP Armed Response Vehicle officers and Tactical Vehicle Interceptor Unit, a short pursuit led the suspects to abandon the vehicle before they made off on foot.

Following further support by National Police Air Service (NPAS) and dog handlers, all three males were quickly arrested on suspicion of assault within an hour of the incident occurring. Two men aged 22 and another man aged 33 remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Mcnabb of GMP’s City Centre division said: “This was excellent case of teamwork across the force, from response officers in the initial administration of life saving first aid, to the comprehensive investigation by CID at the scene which was further enhanced and supported by specialist operations and Force Contact Centre staff leading to a swift arrest of three dangerous men.

“I’d like to reassure members of the community that this was an isolated incident, and there is no wider threat to the community.

"GMP will not tolerate this behaviour and I hope last night’s actions demonstrate that we will use all resources available to catch the suspects and make sure our streets are safe.”
