Three areas of Merseyside record rises in Covid infections

There were rises in Covid infections in three areas of the Liverpool City Region.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, Knowsley, Liverpool and St Helens all recorded increases in positive Covid tests in the week ending May 8.

The week-on-week percentage change figure rises were 5%, 3% and 18%, respectively.

The other three areas of the city region recorded falls in positive covid tests. They were: 16% in Halton; 10% in Sefton; and 8% in Wirral.

West Lancs, Cheshire West and Chester, and Warrington saw decreases in positive tests in the week ending May 8.

There was a week-on-week percentage change figure fall of 8% in England overall.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 535 cases in the week ending May 8, which is 14 more cases than the previous week. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 3%. The latest infection rate was 106.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 364 cases in the week ending May 8, which is 31 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 8%. The latest infection rate was 112.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 135 positive tests over the last week - that's 26 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 16% in Halton in the week ending May 8. The latest infection rate is 104.0 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 222 cases in the week ending May 8, which is 33 more cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in St Helens is 122.6 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 18%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 199 cases in the week ending May 8, which is 10 more cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 130.5 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 5%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 373 cases in the week ending May 8, which is a 42 fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate is 135.2 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases decreased by 10% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 1,828 positive tests over in the week ending May 8, which is 42 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change decreased by 2%. The latest infection rate is 107.36 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 260 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 8, which is 40 fewer cases than the previous week. The week-on-week percentage figure decreased by 13%. There was an infection rate of 124.17 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 478 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 8, which is seven fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate is 139.02 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage decreased by 1% in cases.

West Lancs

There were 113 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 8, which is 14 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate in West Lancs is 98.69 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage decreased by 11% in cases.

England

In the week ending May 8, England recorded 61,124 coronavirus cases, which is 5,229 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. The week-on-week percentage decreased by 8% in England. There was an infection rate of 108.09 per 100,000 people.
