Threave Rovers are currently in the middle of an injury crisis.
Two players with the Castle Douglas side have been ruled out for the rest of the season while many more are carrying knocks.
And that means the blank weekend has come at just the right time.
Boss Vinnie Parker said: “I’ve never known a time at any club I’ve been at where we have as many injuries as we have just now. We’ve two boys out for the season that are now on crutches. Stuart Douglas was taken to hospital after Wednesday’s game against Upper Annandale and has damaged ankle ligaments.
“Farrel O’Sullivan is probably out long term. He probably needs an operation which is disappointing as he’s done well and we’ve only got two or three games out of him. It’s two big injuries for two big players.
“Dan Carmichael is struggling again and has picked up a dead leg and Alex Henderson has been missing with a thigh knock.
“We also have six or seven boys playing with knocks so we’ll use this time to get the boys with less serious injuries back into the squad.”
Threave had a double header against Uppers last week, drawing in the league on Wednesday night before thumping them 4-0 in the Cree Lodge Cup on Saturday.
But with St Cuthbert Wanderers beating Lochmaben, Threave are now nine points off the leaders with just six games left.
Parker admitted: “It makes things even harder. We battered them, we created 30 or 35 chances and just none of them went in. They never even had a shot on goal, they had a scrappy corner we didn’t deal with and they were first to react. In terms of creating chances and keeping the ball we were excellent, all that was missing was another couple of goals to kill the game off.
“On Saturday we played well. We kept the ball brilliantly, created loads of chances and there were good performances – both as individuals and as a team.”
Aiden Kerr gave Threave the lead with a superb strike after a quarter of an hour. And the second came after half an hour when Tam Coles’ cross found its way into the net, Scott Milligan getting a third just before the break.
And 20 minutes from the end Ross Green rounded off the scoring.
However, the game ended on a sour note for Threave as goalie Graham Wright was sent off late on.
“I think one went through the goalie, he has pushed him and the boy has hit the deck. You can’t lift your hands in this day and age,”
