Threave Rovers ground out a narrow victory over Lochar Thistle on Saturday.
Aiden Kerr scored the game’s only goal before the break with Threave gaffer Vinnie Parker admitting the encounter was a poor spectacle.
He said: “It wasn’t a great game, we struggled to get a foothold. We created plenty of chances and their goalkeeper had four or five really good saves, one in particular was one of the best saves I’ve seen of the season from a Ryan Coates
header.
“They never really threatened much.
“Graham Wright had a decent save in the first 10 minutes but apart from that it wasn’t a great game. We just got the job done. Aiden scored a decent goal and it was enough.
“I’m happy enough that we created chances. We were just pretty flat and I don’t know what was wrong.”
The win, along with St Cuthbert Wanderers losing to Abbey Vale, kept Threave’s faint hopes of winning the South of Scotland league alive.
But Saints beat Nithsdale Wanderers on Wednesday night to seal the title, Threave beating Lochmaben on the same evening.
This weekend it's Threave's turn to face the tricky trip to Abbey Vale.
Parker added: “It’s a tough place to go and I never look forward to playing there. It’s a tight, bobbly pitch and they make it really hard for you. It’s a bit of a bogey team for us in the past few years.
“It’s the same 11 that’ll play regularly unless someone is struggling with an injury. You rarely change anything for tactical reasons.”
