Threave Rovers boss Vinnie Parker says there is a “wee buzz” at the club ahead of the new season.
The Castle Douglas side is preparing for life in the West of Scotland League, which gets under way later this month.
And after two friendlies, Parker is delighted with how his squad is looking.
He said: “We’re shaping up brilliantly, it’s quite exciting and there’s a wee buzz in the changing room.
“All the boys have gelled really quickly, everybody gets on really well.
“The standard of training is excellent and the standard of games we’ve played has been excellent as well.”
Threave’s latest friendly saw them face East of Scotland League outfit Whitehill Welfare on Saturday. Whitehill opened the scoring through Ryan Weir’s penalty but Dean Brotherston struck before the break to level things up at a scorching Meadow Park.
Parker said: “It was a day for spectating. The boys handled the heat pretty well and we had a few water breaks chucked in.
“It was a good game of football, two teams really going at it from the word go.
“We created lots of chances, which is positive. We maybe lacked a bit of cutting edge in front of goal.
“We scored a goal that was given offside but I don’t know why – that was the story of the game as there were a few bad decisions.
“They got a penalty that was never a penalty but, in terms of a workout, it was a decent game.”
This weekend Threave are at home to Saltcoats Victoria who are one division above them in the West.
Parker added: “It’ll be a good test to see where we’re at although I don’t know too much about them. It gives us a good platform to
build from.”
