'Threatening communication' made to Scottish airport as flights disrupted

FLIGHTS have been disrupted at a Scottish airport after a “threatening communication” was reported to the police.

Officers were alerted to an alarming message at Kirkwall Airport, Orkney, at around 10.50am on Saturday.

In a post on social media the airport advised passengers to contact airlines directly for flight updates as it said there was “disruption” while enquiries were ongoing.

Police Scotland said there is no evidence to suggest the threat was “credible”.

However, a spokesperson for the force added that investigations into the incident were ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.50am today, Saturday, January 4, 2025, police were made aware of a threatening communication made to Kirkwall Airport.

“At this time there is no evidence to suggest the threat was credible. Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”
