Thousands to take part in Orange Order parades

THOUSANDS are expected to take part in Orange Walk marches across Glasgow.

Orange Order and Loyalist parades are set to be held throughout Glasgow, with the biggest march, the annual Boyne parade, held by the County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow.

More than 4000 are expected to take part, beginning at George Square and heading to Glasgow Green, going throughout the city.

Smaller marches are expected to take part in Drumchapel, Baillieston, Govan, Tollcross and elsewhere.

Police Scotland confirmed officers would be present at the marches.

Chief superintendent Stevie Dolan said: “Police Scotland is a rights-based organisation that puts our values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at the heart of everything we do.

“We are committed to supporting the human rights of individuals and groups who wish to assemble, balanced against the rights of the wider community and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

“Our policing operation will be proportionate and focussed on public safety, as well as doing all we can with partners to reduce disruption to the wider community.”
