Thousands sign petition for Kurt Zouma to be prosecuted for cat-kicking video

More than 160,000 people have signed a petition calling for cat-kicking Kurt Zouma to be prosecuted, as another sponsor dropped West Ham United for playing him.

Zouma, 27, is being investigated by the RSPCA who took his two cats into care on Wednesday.

The French defender has been fined £250,000 by West Ham after a shocking social media video emerged of the Premier League star drop-kicking and slapping one of his cats at his £2million mansion.

But West Ham United and boss David Moyes were slammed for condoning animal cruelty by picking Zouma for the 1-0 win against Watford on Tuesday.

On Thursday morning, tourist board Experience Kissimmee said it was “ending its sponsorship” of the Hammers.

Sportwear giant Adidas also cancelled the player’s kit deal.

Vitality have suspended their deal with the club.

Mayor Sadiq Khan branded the footballer “a disgrace and a bully” and said he should be charged with animal cruelty.

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker said he was “shocked and appalled” by the “tone deaf decision” to play Zouma.

Speaking after the game, Moyes said the Zouma video disappointed him but he took a decision with three points in mind.

Zouma apologised, insisting his cats are loved despite the abuse.

West Ham United said it fined him “the maximum amount possible”.

A spokesman added: “The player has immediately accepted the fine, which will be donated to animal welfare charities.

“West Ham United would like to reiterate our condemnation of Kurt’s actions and make it clear that the matter continues to be handled with the utmost seriousness.

“However, we believe it is now important to allow the RSPCA to conduct their investigation in a fair and thorough manner, and will be making no further comment at this stage.”

It is believed the video was filmed by Zouma’s brother Yoan and posted to Snapchat on Sunday.
