Almost 15,000 young people in North Lanarkshire have benefited from free bus travel since the introduction of the initiative in January for those aged up to 22 years old.
Figures reveal that more than 300,000 young people across Scotland, including 14,664 in the local authority area, have enjoyed over eight million fare free bus journeys since free bus travel for young people was introduced earlier this year.
The matter was raised by the Scottish Greens at First Minister’s Questions in the Scottish Parliament last week.
The party were highlighting the transformational impact of the initiative during Scottish Bus Week.
Lanarkshire-based Central Scotland MSP Gillian Mackay said: “Thanks to the introduction of free bus travel for under 22s, delivered with Greens in government, over 300,000 young people across Scotland, including 14,664 in North Lanarkshire, are now enjoying free, low carbon travel.
“Across Scotland more than eight million journeys have now been made using the scheme, with more young people accessing it every day.
“I’d encourage anyone under the age of 22 who hasn’t yet signed up to visit freebus.scot for information on how to apply.”
