Twitter employees are finding out whether they are being laid off today in a brutal move by Elon Musk.
The Tesla founder took over the social media platform just one week ago and is already making a number of controversial changes. There is widespread speculation that just shy of 4,000 positions will be axed before the end of today. Twitter employs around 8,000 workers in total and has staff based in London and Manchester.
Many Twitter employees have taken to social media to share how they found out about losing their jobs. Some claimed that they were sacked "by email" while others claimed that they were simply "unable to log on" to their work accounts.

Sky News reported that an internal memo sent to workers said: "In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday."
It added: "We recognise that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company's success moving forward. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home."
Twitter said all badge access would be suspended "to help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data". Staff have since been sharing messages of support with each other, using the workplace hashtag #OneTeam.
One employee, named Simon, wrote: "Looks like I’m unemployed y’all. Just got remotely logged out of my work laptop and removed from Slack. #OneTeam forever. Loved you all so much. So sad it had to end this way."
Nick said: "Whelp officially laid off from twitter after 2+ years. Locked out of slack and email, but at least my car still unlocks! It was a fun ride, truly unique and a roller coaster of a job. Grateful to all the amazing people who made it happen #OneTeam #LoveWhereYouWorked."
Meanwhile, a worker named Rishi wasn't laid off but still showed his support. He wrote: "I got the email saying my role is not impacted but absolutely gutted to see so many people I call as family let go. Twitter will never be the same #LoveWhereYouWorked #OneTeam."
