Thousands of people enjoyed Kirkcudbright’s floodlit tattoo on Saturday.
A fantastic evening of entertainment took place in the shadow of MacLellan’s Castle.
The Calgary Burns Singers were one of the star attractions along with motorcycle stuntman Steve Colley.
Other performers included Kirkcudbright and District Pipe Band, RAF Waddington Pipe Band, Isle of Cumbrae Pipe band, Doon and Dunaskin Brass Band and Annan Town Band.
Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities’ chairman John Blaikie said: “It was brilliant - it has to be one of the best tattoos ever.
“We were probably about our maximum in terms of numbers - we didn’t quite sell out tickets but we were getting close and that was about as many as we could go to.
“The Calgary choir didn’t just sing Burns, there were a lot of tunes people knew.
“Steve Colley said it was one of his best shows. He loved the big long street and was really amused by people watching out of their windows. He stayed on for the classic cars the next day.”
The tattoo is the showpiece of the summer festivities programme, which has returned to normal after the coronavirus
pandemic.
John added: “People have had two years where they couldn’t do anything and now it’s as if someone has said they have their freedom. They have come out and embraced what’s going on.
“We haven’t had an event that’s not been good - even with the rain on parade day, people still came out and watched. We’ve had a brilliant year, I’ve no complaints at all.”
The summer may be over but Kirkcudbright certainly isn’t going into hibernation over the next few months.
And later that month the town will play host to the fantastic food festival on October 22 and 23.
