NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The flood situation was serious in nine districts of this northeastern province, with about 6,500 households inundated, the provincial governor said on Tuesday.

Governor Siam Sirimongkol said the houses were in Chakkarat, Chalerm Phrakiat, Chum Phuang, Lam Thamenchai, Muang, Muang Yang, Non Sung, Non Thai and Phimai districts.

"The situation in these districts tends to be serious... Water already exceeds the capacities of 17 local reservoirs," the governor said.

The large Lam Takhong reservoir was already holding 330 million cubic metres of water, despite its 314-million-cubic-metre capacity. The 16 others were medium-sized reservoirs.

Mr Siam said floodwater was receding in Dan Khun Thot, Huai Thalaeng, Kaeng Sanam Nang, Khong and Prathai districts.

Flooding had drained off in eight districts - Bua Lai, Bua Yai, Chok Chai, Kham Thale So, Nong Bunmak, Pak Thong Chai, Sida and Sung Noen.

He said floods cause by Storm Noru before it faded had affected 22 districts from Sept 27 to Sunday.
